Do We Cure Children?
No. There is a lot of controversy on this subject. We don’t promote to cure children from autism, but we do maintain that children can recover from the damaging effects of the disorder. We accomplish this with treatments that have been proven to maximize their potential. In some cases, children can become indistinguishable from their peers, be shown to have an intelligence within the normal range or higher, and can make and maintain friendships.
Does this mean they are cured? Does this mean they will not have difficulties later on as they enter into their teenage or adult life? Does this mean that they don’t look at social interaction and the world around them a bit differently then others that are not on the spectrum? We don’t have definitive answers to these questions, but hopefully as we learn more as an autism community, some of these questions will be answered.
What we do believe and promote is the opportunity that some children can recover from some and maybe even all of the effects that the disorder has caused in the areas of language, behaviors and social/play skills.
